Tom “Star Tom” McCurry is a friendly performer with almost 20 years of full-time professional experience “nurturing joy and inspiration” through music.  He graduated cum laude from Sonoma State University with a Liberal Arts degree from the Hutchins School, and a concentration in music.  He has an all-original  CD entitled “New Hope,” and is a prolific songwriter.  Star Tom works extensively with children and churches, but also in commercial environments such as galleries, wineries and stores, and in service to individuals.

 

In the education arena, Star Tom is a registered, active Music Together teacher with Santa Rosa Area Music Together.  He teaches these family classes in Healdsburg, Windsor and Santa Rosa California.  He has worked in public, private and special education settings as a substitute teacher and as a music teacher, including three years as a guitar teacher as Summerfield Waldorf High School.  He brings his music to preschools, elementary schools and libraries.   

 

In the church world, Star Tom has been providing joyful, inspiring music for spiritual services such as those at Unity Churches, Centers for Spiritual Living, and Unitarian Churches for over 30 years.  His music is appropriate for any open, interdenominational spiritual setting.  Star Tom received the “Beloved Musician” award from the United Church of Religious Science (now Centers for Spiritual Living) in 2005 for his extensive performance and musical contributions to the church.  

 

Tom brings a unique perspective to providing music for spiritual services.  He served as the Bookstore Manager for the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa for 10 years.  He was the Music Director for the Center for Spiritual Living, Petaluma for 5 years, and is currently the Music Director for Unity of Santa Rosa.  Tom says, "My performance is about heart, connection and service - not a need for the spotlight."  He has brought this "heart" to dozens of churches of all sizes, to national conferences, and to facets of church life including Weddings, Memorials, Men’s Retreats, Family Camps, Youth Church, Spirit In Nature, World Peace Meditations, and Healing Services.

Twenty years in the retail world has given Star Tom a thorough understanding of the needs of the business environment.  He helped manage his family's gift and toy stores (Unicorn Gifts and Toys, Merlin's, and The Enchantor) for 10 years, and then went on to manage Stepping Stones Bookstore for 10 more years.  He has played for art shows, winery events, book signings, open houses, company dinners, and retirement parties.

Star Tom teaches guitar at Newhope Farms in Santa Rosa.  He has helped many get their start or hone their skills in private lessons, and also teaches the Guitar for Grownups program for Santa Rosa Area Music Together.  Tom's most unique service is what he calls "Inspirationalist House Calls."  These are in-home visits individually tailored to a specific person or family.  He has provided these to people who were preparing for or recovering from significant surgery, and to those seeking inspiration for a life change or event.
